Deaf-mute young man Shigeru (played by Kuroto Maki) is a janitor. When he was cleaning up a garbage dump, he found a worn-out surfboard that had been thrown away. After picking it up and repairing it, he took his girlfriend Takako (played by Hiroko Oshima) with him. To practice at the beach, Takako is also deaf-mute.
