In Shanghai in the 1930s, Shijun (Leon Lai) and Manzhen (Wu Qianlian) worked in the same factory and became lovers. Manzhen lost her father in her early years. In order to support the family, her sister Manlu (Anita Mui) sadly left her lover to work as a dancer to make money, and eventually married a married man Zhu Hongcai (Ge You).
